Who are we?

Overview

The VETERANS Project is a transformative initiative designed to integrate green skills into vocational education and training (VET) in the Western Balkans (WB) and EU countries. Recognizing the urgent need to prepare the workforce for climate challenges, energy efficiency, and sustainable entrepreneurship, this project aims to empower VET learners with the necessary competencies to thrive in a green economy.

Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, the project engages partners from higher education institutions (HEIs), vocational education providers, NGOs, and industry leaders, ensuring a holistic approach to green skills development.

📌 Project Background

Why is the VETERANS Project Needed?

The shift towards a sustainable and green economy has created a high demand for skilled workers in areas like renewable energy, circular economy, and energy-efficient technologies. However, many VET programs in the Western Balkans lack structured training on green skills, leading to a skills gap in the labor market.

To address this challenge, the VETERANS Project:

  • Develops a state-of-the-art report mapping the current situation in VET education and green skills training.
  • Creates an innovative curriculum tailored to EQF Levels 3-5, ensuring that VET learners gain practical knowledge in sustainable industries.
  • Establishes an e-learning platform, offering digital training resources and tools.
  • Builds an EU-wide network of VET training centers to support the long-term integration of green skills.

📌 Objectives

The VETERANS Project is structured around six key objectives:

  1. Investigate the current VET landscape regarding green skills and sustainability.
  2. Develop and pilot-test a curriculum that aligns with European qualifications frameworks (EQF 3-5).
  3. Establish Educational Hubs (EDUHUBs) as platforms for knowledge exchange and training.
  4. Create an online learning platform to promote digital and self-paced learning.
  5. Engage VET trainers, students, and industry stakeholders to ensure practical skill development.
  6. Ensure long-term sustainability by building a network of training centers and securing future funding opportunities.

📌 Expected Impact

The VETERANS Project is set to bring significant benefits to various stakeholders:

  • For VET Trainers: Enhanced training methodologies and curriculum resources focused on sustainability.
  • For Students & Entrepreneurs: New skills and knowledge in green economy practices, energy efficiency, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
  • For VET Institutions: Stronger integration of green skills into their training programs.
  • For Policymakers & Employers: A better-trained workforce ready for the challenges of a sustainable future.

By integrating green skills education into VET curricula, the project will help future-proof the workforce, increase employability, and support EU climate goals.
